What is Luxury Vinyl Flooring?

Luxury vinyl flooring is part of an ever evolving flooring product category. It has gone through many changes in the past 10 years and we are still seeing new innovative features. At Angelos Carpet One Floor & Home in Levittown, PA., we have the experts to help you navigate through all of our luxury vinyl options. Choose from luxury vinyl tiles and planks in our showroom. What makes luxury vinyl different is its multi-layer construction. Each layer has an important role in how the floor functions. Luxury vinyl has gained much of its popularity from its versatility as well as how it is able to exactly mimic the look of hardwood or stone. It has become a popular option in alternative flooring because it looks just like real hardwood but has the benefits of being luxury vinyl.

Expert Advice - LVT Flooring

Luxury vinyl flooring, or LVT flooring, has become more and more popular in residential and commercial settings. Join our very own Jim Aaron, VP of Merchandising for Carpet One Floor & Home, for some inside information about luxury vinyl.

Types of Luxury Vinyl

The two most popular types of luxury vinyl flooring are vinyl plank flooring and vinyl tile flooring. Vinyl plank is a durable alternative to hardwood flooring, while vinyl tile is an alternative to ceramic and stone tile. Since luxury vinyl is a rapidly growing flooring category, different types of luxury vinyl are emerging like WPC, SPC, and rigid core luxury vinyl.

Is Luxury Vinyl Waterproof?

Most luxury vinyl options are resistant to moisture to some extent, but there are brands that make their floors 100% waterproof, and there are also types of luxury vinyl that are completely waterproof like WPC and rigid core luxury vinyl. Waterproof luxury vinyl features a water tight seal on the surface, and a waterproof core in the center to prevent moisture from reaching your subfloor, which is almost always never waterproof. Waterproof flooring will change the way you look at flooring in your entire home. They are easy to clean and maintain over time, and because they are luxury vinyl they are able to replicate the authentic look of stone and wood flooring.

Where can Luxury Vinyl be Installed?

Although hardwood and stone offer natural style and luxury, they aren’t suitable for every residential setting. Hardwood, for example, isn’t the best option for areas with moisture or heavy foot traffic. Luxury vinyl, however, is suitable for pretty much any area in the home. It can withstand the foot traffic you typically see in living rooms, it is comfortable enough for bedrooms, and it can handle the moisture you’d expect in kitchens. In high-traffic or high-moisture areas like bathrooms, however, we do recommend choosing a waterproof luxury vinyl floor.
