Allergy-Friendly Flooring Options

Although hardwood is an investment, it immediately benefits your home. You not only get added value, but you also get added function as well. Hardwood floors can reduce noise from foot traffic, and is warmer underfoot than tile. Hardwood floors are also known to be allergy friendly. Hardwood is long lasting, and even gives you the ability to refinish it for a fresh look. Most manufactures pre-finish their hardwood products, but some leave them unfinished so you can customize your floors.

Hardwood is an excellent choice for homes that have allergies or those looking for a clean, safe, hypoallergenic option for their home. You can install hardwood in bedrooms, living rooms, and dens, as well as stairs.

Solid vs Engineered Hardwood

The two types of hardwood flooring are solid and engineered hardwood. Solid hardwood flooring is the more traditional option, as solid planks are made from single strips of wood. Solid hardwood allows the natural characteristics of the wood to stick out, and in turn adds real estate value to your home. Engineered hardwood features a special layered construction made up of 3 to 7 layers of real wood veneers and a top layer of premium wood. This layered construction makes the planks more stable, and able to resist their natural tendency to expand and contract due to changes in humidity.

Where Can Hardwood Be Installed?

It is important for us to let you now that even though hardwood is durable, there are places around your home it is not well suited for such as kitchens, bathrooms, and laundry rooms. Hardwood is, however, appropriate for home settings such as bedrooms and living rooms. There are even hardwood options that can handle moderately trafficked areas like hallways and stairs, and some engineered options can be installed in finished basements.
