Expert Advice - Choosing a Carpet Style

Jim Aaron, our VP of Merchandising for Carpet One Floor & Home, shares some information on the different carpet styles that are available.

Where Can Carpet Be Installed?

East install and insulating, carpeting is offered up in a wide range of prices, addressing a wide range of functional and style needs. We love carpet for its amazing ability to instantly transform your room.

Carpet can be installed in home settings such as bedrooms, family rooms, and living rooms. No other flooring option has style and comfort that carpet can add to your home. If you live with children and pets, you'll want to consider carpet that offers stain resistance and strength. We do not recommend installing carpet in areas with moisture.

There are durable commercial carpets that are suitable for commercial spaces such as offices. Carpet tile is popular in commercial settings because it is easy to install and maintain.

Types of Carpet

Before choosing a carpet for your home, there are some characteristics you may want to consider. Pile styles are important. Carpet pile is the density of fibers that make up a carpet. What are the different pile types? Cut pile has fibers that are cut at the ends making the carpet denser. Loop pile is the opposite, for no fibers are left at the surface and are in a series of loops which provides the carpet an even look. Multi-level loop staggers the height of the loop fibers to create an uneven surface. Cut and loop piles also provide an uneven look but also gives texture to the carpet.

Carpet fibers can be made out of different materials, which impacts the look and feel of the carpet. It also determines the stain and matting resistance as well as long term durability. Nylon and polyester carpets are synthetic fibers that are durable and soft. Wool fibers are natural, and are found in most carpets.
